# Iron discipline: a champions' council

> A ready-made council for habits, slumps and nerve: what to repeat, how to get up after a loss, and how to raise your own standard.

Three athletes who built their results on the same thing and disagree about how to get it, plus one voice from outside sport. Serena Williams talks about the seven a.m. after the defeat, Muhammad Ali about declaring the win before you have earned it, Bruce Lee about the one movement repeated until it belongs to you — and TOP G about the bill your comfort quietly runs up.

## Who is at the table

- Serena Williams: a champion's discipline
- [Muhammad Ali](https://talktogoats.com/en/ask/muhammad-ali.md): self-belief
- [Bruce Lee](https://talktogoats.com/en/ask/bruce-lee.md): adaptability
- [TOP G](https://talktogoats.com/en/ask/top-g.md): money, discipline, no excuses

This is the table for habits that do not survive week two, for a slump long enough to feel permanent, and for the moment before something you are afraid of. It is also the room for teams: how to raise a standard that people have quietly agreed to keep low. Nobody here is gentle, and none of them will accept that motivation is the missing ingredient.

Bring the thing you keep not doing, the loss you have not digested, or the pitch you are dreading. You will get four methods — routine, nerve, practice and blunt arithmetic — argued against each other, and a week of specific actions at the end rather than encouragement.

From $9.99 a month. Cancel anytime.
